Roman Reenactment Group – Legio X Gemina (Cohors VIII)

ABOUT LEGION

Pomocí autentické výstroje, výcviku a historického výzkumu přibližujeme život římských legionářů. Současně rozvíjíme projekt Castellum Felix – rekonstrukci římského pochodového tábora, který ukazuje, jak legionáři budovali opevnění a žili během tažení.

What We Do

Our Roman reenactment group is involved in:
- Historical reenactment events across Europe
- Roman military drills and combat demonstration
- Educational programs for schools, museums, and festivals
- Living history presentations of Roman daily life and camp construction

Tenth legion - from conquerors of Gaul to the protectors of the Limes Romanus.

From Caesar's personal guard to the veteran formation of the late Empire, Legio X Gemina Pia Fidelis symbolized adaptability, loyalty, and military excellence. Its long service on the Pannonian frontier influenced the development of Roman military doctrine across five centuries.

CASTELLVM FELIX

Castellum Felix is our Roman camp reconstruction project, focused on recreating a Roman marching camp based on historical and archaeological evidence.
The fortress is home to the Eighth Cohort of tenth legion, a unit tasked with protecting important trade and supply routes beyond the borders of the Roman Empire. Unit maintains order and security in the region and enables intensive cultural exchange between the Romans and the local tribes. The fortress serves not only as a military outpost, but also as a symbol of the power and Roman civilization.
Unikátní projekt výstavby plně funkční římské tvrze nedaleko Turnova právě probíhá. Zde můžete zjistit aktuální stav projektu:
Phase 1

Terrain works

The first step is to prepare the terrain for the camp. The terrain is cleared, leveled, and the soil is compacted. On the perimeter of the platform, the foundations of an earthen wall of considerable height will be built, which will serve as the foundation for the fortification.
Phase 2

Marching Camp

We will continue with the construction of a marching camp for Roman legions on campaign. The military tents serve as accommodation for individual contubernia ( squads ) and, together with the central officers' tent, form the basic structure and layout of the camp.
Phase 3

FORTIFIED MARCHING CAMP

In the next phase, the camp is transformed into a fortified place. Earthen ramparts are raised, reinforced with a walkway and battlements. The main gate is crowned with a watchtower, turning the camp into a defensive border base.
Phase 4

PERMANENT CAMP WITH BARRACKS

After fortification, the temporary military tents are replaced by permanent accommodation – a barracks building made of wood and mortar. The camp thus becomes static and suitable for year-round accommodation of soldiers.
Phase 5

PERMANENT CAMP WITH BARRACKS and warehouse

The final phase expands functionality and realism by adding a multipurpose warehouse building opposite the barracks to provide supplies. A latrine, built at the back of the camp, serves to maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness in the camp.

You can also contribute to the construction of our fortress. We will be grateful for every contribution.
